NEYYAR WILD LIFE SANCTUARY

NEYYAR WILD LIFE SANCTUARY SITUATED IN THE SOUTH EAST REGION OF WESTERN GHATS AND IS IN TRIVANDRUM DISTRICT OF KERALA. IT WAS NOTIFIED AS A WILD LIFE SANCTUARY IN THE YEAR 1958 HAVING AN AREA OF 128 SQ.KM. THE 1890m HIGH AGASTHYARKOOTAM PEAK WHICH IS THE SECOND HIGHEST PEAK IN KERALA LIES IN THIS SANCTUARY. THE ENCHANTING NEYYAR DAM AND THE ENTHRALLING AGASTHYARKOOTAM PROVIDING AN UNIQUE BEAUTY TO THIS LAND.

NEYYAR IS LYING ABOUT 30 KM FROM THIRUVANATHAPURAM CITY. THE CROCODILE REARING FARM AND THE LION SAFARI PARK ARE INTERESTING SCENES OF THIS SANCTUARY. THE CROCODILE REARING FARM IS NAMED AFTER STEVE IRWIN, THE ANCHOR OF THE FAMOUS CROCODILE HUNTER PROGRAMME. THE LION SAFARI PARK IN THE MARUKUNNAM ISLAND IS THE FIRST KIND OF SUCH IN KERALA AND 5TH IN INDIA. WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE SAFARI PARK, THE TRAVELERS WILL BE IN THE CAGE AND THE KING OF THE FOREST, LION MAY PASS THROGH YOU IN THE WILD.
